The Teacher Wellbeing Revolution

Teachers and leaders have been talking about staff wellbeing for some time, but with very little change in the attitude from Ofsted and a reluctance to make it anything more than a recommendation, teachers have had to take things into their own hands.

ATL is talking about workload issues with their ‘About Time’ campaign, Twitter users have forged a flourishing network through #teacher5aday and there are many other unions, networks and groups supporting the cause.

The Positive Teacher Network is part of this movement, this revolution to support all teachers in their wellbeing. We must spend time focusing on our wellbeing so that we can maintain our health, resilience and ability to support others.

Teachers are often ‘givers’ and as a result are liable to give so much of themselves to their students that they burn out before they realise they need to stop. Wellbeing is about recognising and maintaining balance. There will be times where school feels like it takes over, but we must notice and then commit to pulling it back so that we give time for ourselves later.

Looking out for our wellbeing is important because:

It increases your personal happiness and fulfilment
It develops your skills as a teacher and leader
It allows you to give back and contribute to the wellbeing of others

Membership to the Positive Teacher Network helps you fulfil these desires through monthly training and tools in wellbeing and resilience to keep you informed on the latest research and inspired to try new ideas to grow and develop.

Our Whole School Wellbeing option now allows leaders to buy a membership for several staff at a group discount. Find out more here: PTN Membership
